Sportvision
As Head of Creative at Sportvision, I was behind some of the most groundbreaking innovations in sports broadcasting. I helped pioneer live augmented reality (AR) technology, invented the patented FreezeCam technology, and redesigned the iconic Yellow Line for the NFL. My work earned me two Emmy Awards—one for NASCAR broadcasts and another for PGA Tourcast.
Yellow Line Innovation
I led the creative redesign of the NFL’s Yellow Line, a tool that transformed the way millions of fans watch football. The Yellow Line allows viewers to easily track first downs, fundamentally enhancing the game-viewing experience. The new innovations allowed for better storytelling.
Live AR Broadcast Graphics
I directed the creative development of virtual lines, 3D holograms in live broadcasts, virtual Jumbotrons and scoreboards, and ball and player tracking systems. These innovations included groundbreaking technologies like PitchFX (also known as FoxTrax) and ESPN’s K-zone, which enhanced baseball broadcasts by tracking pitch location and trajectory in real-time. These AR graphics provided viewers with real-time data and interactive visuals that deepened their understanding and enjoyment of live sports.
FreezeCam Technology (US Patent No. US20080049123A1)
I invented FreezeCam, a patented technology that was a game-changer in sports broadcasting. FreezeCam allows broadcasters to “freeze” key moments in live events, offering dynamic, zoomed-in replays that provide fans with a deeper and more immersive view of the action. By enabling seamless transitions from live video to high-resolution still images, broadcasters can zoom in, move around the scene, and then resume the action—revolutionizing how pivotal moments are captured and presented in live sports.
Product design
IRL RaceCast was a revolutionary technology I designed for ESPN, providing fans with real-time, data-driven insights during IndyCar races. By combining live race data with 3D visualizations, RaceCast allowed viewers to track the performance of their favorite drivers and cars, offering detailed stats like speed, position, and lap times. This immersive experience enhanced fan engagement by bringing them closer to the action, transforming the way motorsports were broadcast.
Product design
RaceView is a groundbreaking NASCAR broadcast technology I helped design during my time at Sportvision. It allowed fans to experience real-time tracking of race cars with enhanced data overlays, providing viewers with unprecedented insight into car performance, driver stats, and race positioning. By integrating GPS tracking and real-time data, RaceView revolutionized how fans engaged with NASCAR, offering a more immersive, data-driven viewing experience that took sports broadcasting to the next level.
Product design
PGA TOURCast was a cutting-edge technology for IBM and PGA, providing fans with a revolutionary way to engage with golf. Through real-time data integration, 3D visualizations, and detailed player stats, PGA TOURCast allowed viewers to follow their favorite golfers shot-by-shot with a fully immersive digital experience. This innovation transformed how fans watched and interacted with golf tournaments, delivering deeper insights and bringing fans closer to the action.
